Lost Car Keys on a 2014 Skoda Citigo, in Winchester, Hampshire

This post discusses lost car keys (all keys lost) on a Skoda Citigo 2011-2018 near Winchester, Hampshire, attended via our mobile auto locksmith service, which operates throughout Hampshire. The customer had left their Skoda Citigo car keys in a taxi. Master Auto Locksmiths arrived to gain emergency access, decode the locks, and cut and program new keys.

As is often the case, this all-keys-lost job was not straightforward. I managed to pick the Skoda’s door lock and gain access to the vehicle quickly. Upon decoding the key from the picked door lock and cutting a succession of key blades, the newly cut Skoda Citego car keys would unlock the door but not operate in the ignition, or petrol cap. This can be due to the door lock having been changed previously due to failure or theft attempts, but not in this case.

After moving to the ignition and picking and decoding the ignition barrel, it became apparent that the door lock was progressively failing internally and hence, would not operate or decode correctly – we were lucky to gain access initially before it broke down further internally. A new key was cut from the decoded ignition barrel instead. This worked correctly in both the ignition barrel and the petrol cap. The doorlock in this case was unusable and required a replacement or rebuild.

The next task was to connect to the Skoda Citigo’s immobiliser and program a key into the vehicle, enabling it to be started. A Skoda Citigo 5KO remote was generated and an ID48 Megamos TP24 transponder was precoded.

A key programmer/diagnostic scanner was connected to the Citigo’s OBD port and an immobiliser diagnostic scan was performed on the vehicle, which successfully connected to the Skoda’s immobiliser and read the data stored within it. The immobiliser data was read and saved, and the key was set as a dealer key ready to be programmed into the vehicle, allowing it to be started. As a separate process, the car key remote was programmed into the Skoda Citigo’s remote central locking system, to activate or deactivate the central locking to lock, or unlock the vehicle.

The customer was advised to replace or repair the broken door lock on the vehicle, in case of a flat battery or central locking failure.
