Broken Renault Master Van Key Repair – Emergency Call-Out

Master Auto Locksmith recently received a call from an anxious customer after this key-remote stopped working whilst trying to access his Renault Master. The door lock on the vehicle had seized due to lack of use – a common problem and so he could not gain access to his van. The owner of the Renault Master was a local trader that needed to attend one of his regular customers to complete a job, and he had no access to his van at this point.

We attended the call-out swiftly, gained access to the van and started the process of determining what the fault was. One of the plastic key case buttons had previously broken on his key and the circuit board of his key remote was visible through the resulting hole in the key remote. His key had failed, and would not start the vehicle in addition to the remote not working. Since this was his only van key, he was in a bit of a pickle. The likely cause of the failure was either water ingress or a foreign object making it’s way into the key, damaging the circuit board and transponder.

For quickness a new key was quickly assembled using his original key blade, and we managed to program a replacement fob using his original key blade. We also carried out a swift diagnostic via the OBD (On Board Diagnostics Port) at the customer’s request in case there were further issues. Faults were detected and reported to the customer, but none of these faults related to the immobiliser, central locking or key operation. The detected faults were injector and engine related and the customer was given a PDF report of the diagnostic test, so that he could communicate these issues to his local garage for their attention.

The van owner was back on the road and able to attend his appointment. He also booked in an appointment with Master Auto Locksmith to arrange a spare key at a later date.

Keys and remotes can fail for a variety of reasons so, having a spare van key is a wise decision in case of key issues.
