Removal of trim in an Audi A3 which required an ignition barrel repair
Upon visiting the vehicle, the key would not turn at all in the ignition barrel at all, even with various persuasion efforts. Since time was short, I elected to remote the steering lock housing complete with the ignition barrel. Various parts of trim and connectors need to be removed and moved aside before removal.

Accessing the Audi A3 ignition barrel requires removal of connectors, electrical components and trim
Whilst it was possible to replace the complete mechanism, I was sure that the ignition barrel itself was fine. The Audi steering lock mechanism being the culprit. I made a new key blade, copying the original but cutting it to new factory spec. This creates extra meat on the bone over the existing key, which is worn and rounded off. This allowed me to encourage the ignition to turn just enough, to a position where the ignition barrel could be removed from the housing.
Refitting the new Audi Ignition Lock Housing Complete With Original Ignition Barrel
Fitting the original ignition barrel into a new Audi ignition lock housing, the key turned fine. This saved time, and money for the customer.
The whole assembly was fitted back into the car. I tested the key operation in the ignition and operation of the steering lock, both operating correctly. The electronics and harness were reconnected, and the trim put back into position.
The customer was back on the road quickly and the Audi ignition barrel was repaired, carrying a warranty.
